FAQs
What types of events do you perform at?
Weddings, funerals, memorial services, celebrations of life, corporate events, private parties, parades, and community ceremonies. If you have something unique in mind, just ask — chances are I’ve played it.
Do you perform as a bagpiper for film and television?
Yes, I have played the bagpiper on the television show Fire Country, have been featured on numerous news segments and am exploring more opportunities now. I have a variety of highland clothing that can be utilized for these events.
How far in advance should I book?
Booking at least 2–4 weeks in advance is recommended, especially during peak seasons (summer weddings, Remembrance Day, and holiday events). Last-minute bookings are welcome if the schedule allows.
Do you travel outside the Vancouver area?
Yes. I perform the bagpipes across BC and Alberta, with travel fees based on distance. Let me know the exact location and I’ll provide a clear quote.
What does it cost to hire a bagpiper?
Rates vary depending on the event type, duration, travel, and any special requests. Most performances fall within a predictable range, and I provide firm quotes so you know exactly what to expect.
Can you play specific songs on request?
Absolutely. Whether it’s a traditional tune or something more modern, I can usually accommodate your request — and if I can’t play the exact piece, I’ll suggest a close alternative that suits the moment.
What should I expect on the day of the event?
I arrive early, in full dress, warmed up, and ready to perform. I coordinate with your event organizer, officiant, or venue staff to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Do you take special timing cues (entrances, exits, procession, etc.)?
Yes. I can time my performance precisely for:
Processional entrances
Recessional exits
Moments of reflection
Honour guards
Ceremony transitions
Just tell me the cue or give me your schedule.
What do you typically wear?
Full traditional Highland dress is standard. If your event requires a different look (casual, semi-formal, or themed attire), I can adjust as needed.
How loud are the bagpipes?
Bagpipes are naturally powerful instruments. I can perform indoors and outdoors, adjusting distance and placement for the best atmosphere and comfortable sound levels.
Can you perform indoors?
Yes — as long as the venue permits it. I can also play outside the entrance for indoor ceremonies and move inside only for featured moments if preferred.
Do you offer music for funerals and memorials?
Yes. This is a core part of my service. I can guide you in choosing appropriate tunes, timing, and placement to honour your loved one with dignity and respect.
What happens if the weather is bad?
I perform in most weather conditions. Extreme conditions (lightning, high winds, or unsafe environments) may require adjustments, but I always work with you to find a safe solution.
Can you help plan the musical portion of the ceremony?
Yes — I’m happy to recommend appropriate tunes, structure the flow, and help integrate the bagpipes into your ceremony in a meaningful way.
